Aster Wells-Hynes was born in Vermont, USA and grew up in a house where food was not important and so learned to cook out of pure necessity. She quickly realized that there was an entire universe that she hadn’t been introduced to. A universe that she had lived parallel to her entire life. Being from a rural countryside she was surrounded by farms. She started work on a dairy farm when she was twelve and then organic vegetable farms in her teens. When she connected
the two aspects, the ingredients she was helping farm to the preparation and execution, everything seemed to fall into place.
She found her footing in a strict French kitchen that gave her the confidence and foundation to consider making cooking a career. After graduating from August Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Boulder, Colorado in 2012 she has had an exciting career so far, full of travel and for the most part wonderful experiences. She has worked in every kind of place. From fine dining to a Grateful Dead bar and slinging eats to make it to the next show on tour. Food is so much more than just sustenance, it is art, and the possibilities are endless. It is so amazing how intwined food is with so many aspects of every culture. Through her world travels she's sought to learn how every culture interacts with their food and to find the soul of a place through its cuisine.
