Experienced Chef & Sommelier with a passion for southern European flavors and creating memorable gatherings in the name of good food.
My name is Thijs, a Dutch hospitality professional based in the Algarve, where I’m also known as Matheus. With over 20 years of experience across four countries, I’ve built my career around good food, good wine, and genuine hospitality.
I started in hotel school and went on to work as a manager and sommelier, including in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Over time, I moved into the kitchen, developing my chef skills through hands-on experience.
Today, I combine front-of-house, wine, and kitchen knowledge to create relaxed, well-balanced dining experiences. As a private and travel chef, I focus on fresh local ingredients, simple quality, and making guests feel comfortable and well cared for in their own residence.
