Farm-to-table private chef creating seasonal, hyperlocal dining experiences rooted in the Shenandoah Valley.

I’m Chef Aaron Gardner, the chef behind Gardner’s Harvest in Swoope, Virginia. I’m a self-taught chef with more than a decade of experience, and my cooking is rooted in the seasons, the ingredients available around us, and the people I’m cooking for.

I work with a network of small farms, ranches, and producers throughout the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding region, sourcing as locally as possible and building my menus around what is actually in season. I believe a good meal should have a sense of place. The ingredients, the season, the landscape, and the people who cultivate it all contribute to what I think of as a region’s terroir.

My menus are never predetermined or built around ingredients simply because they sound luxurious. Instead, I let the season, the quality of what is available, and my clients’ preferences shape the meal. Everything I make is prepared from scratch, from sauces, dressings, and marinades to breads, desserts, and the many components that bring a dish together.

Sustainability and regenerative farming are important to the way I approach food. I believe supporting farmers and producers who care for their land, animals, and communities is an essential part of responsible cooking. Food connects us to the people who grow and raise it, to the place it comes from, and ultimately to one another.

Every experience I create is customized to the occasion and the people around the table, whether it’s an intimate multi-course dinner, a relaxed family-style meal, or a larger celebration. My goal is to create food that feels personal, seasonal, and genuinely connected to the place and people it comes from.

A cooking secret...
