Chef Shaun Belangia

Hey, I’m Chef Shaun Belangia—founder of The Migrating Duck and a Currituck native with over 28 years in the kitchen. I got my start as a teenager cooking at the Ramada Inn, and the spark never left. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of Virginia with a degree in Culinary Science and Restaurant Management, I ran kitchens, launched a restaurant, and catered thousands of events across the Outer Banks.

These days, I focus on personal chef services, creating custom menus that reflect my Southern roots, island vibes, and a little Tex-Mex kick. Whether it’s an intimate dinner or a celebration with friends, I bring bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed energy to the table.

The Migrating Duck is a tribute to the journey I’ve taken—moving, learning, growing, and always feeding people well. And I don’t do it alone—my wife, Shelly, has been by my side for over 20 years and is a huge part of everything we do behind the scenes.

Oh—and if you’re into bragging rights: I took home first place in the inaugural 2014 Food Pantry Cook-Off with my Shepherd’s Pie. Just saying.
